Windsurfing: Lepe Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: Mostly 17-23 knots (?) Surf / Sea State: Lumpy solent chop Air Temperature: 17ºC Sea Temperature: 18ºC Weather: Overcast/rain Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Met up with Gwyn and Ian (another mate from Mar Menor) at Lepe. Took ages
to get there - had to pass by Shirley sorting office and queue to collect a
parcel (Andy's b'day prezzie Brentford scarf!)....then took a wrong turn
trying to get out of Shirley.....doh!
Arrived around 12.30pm. Looked like solid 5.2 weather, which it was - nice.
First 20 mins were the best, was sailing well, and got some big big jumps
in, reckon the biggest I've ever had off just chop not waves. All was going
well and was thinking "this could be a 5 star session if it continues".
But it didn't. Tide turned to wind against tide, and it got ridiculously
lumpy, and sailing quickly became a struggle. Wind picked up before some
rain passed over, so changed to the Quatro, but then dropped off after the
rain. Went out again on the Bee when the wind picked up again, but despite
being solidly powered it was still lump-tastic and not much fun. Some more
rain passed over around 4pm which killed the wind good and proper, so came
in and called it a day. Glad I did since the wind didn't pick up again this
time.
Mixed gybing performance, but did plane out of one ducky on the inside -
woohoo! Along with a couple of quality Superman dismounts though....
Overall another solid windy session on the small kit :) Just a shame it got
so lumpy or it could have been even better.
Just checked forecasts and even MORE proper wind is forecast for this
week!!!! Will it ever end?!? Er, got my dissertation to hand in, 30
Sep....hmmmm wonder if I'll get out..... (well, I do have only 10 days more
in Soton until I move to Brighton, so obviously should really get my
priorities right and make the most of the good sailing here in my last few
days, shouldn't I???)
